Cornet Ross Andrew Gibson (24) of 6 Heronhill Bank, Hawick is the only son of Andrew and Rhonda Gibson. Ross has a younger sister Laura (21), who graduated last year in Early Childhood Studies and is currently working with children locally.
The 2014 Cornet was educated at Trinity Primary School and Hawick High School. After leaving school, he started work as an apprentice electrician with SBHA. He is now fully qualified and continues his employment with the company.
Ross first followed Cornet Greg Mcleod in 2003 on a horse called Barney and in the same year gained his Mosstroopers badge. He has followed every Cornet since and enjoys participating at other Border Festivals.His mount for this years Common Riding is his own horse George, a 13 year old 16.2hh chestnut gelding.
Outwith the Common-Riding, Ross has various sporting intrests but mainly rugby. He payed at Trinity, The High School and Hawick Albian before turning out for the PSA, The YM and Hawick. He has also represented the Borders at U163, 17 and 18 and Scotland U17 and 18.
Away from Rugby, Ross enjoys trips to Ibrox to cheer on Rangers and also likes helping out on the farm at Northhouse.
His appointment as Cornet 2014 is the realisation of a lifelong ambition for Ross and he is honoured to follow in the long list of Cornets who have gone before. He cannot wait for it to start and to lead this years's Common-Riding.
Ross looks forward to sharing the experience with the townsfolk of Hawick and Visitors alike. Along with his family, he would like to wish everyone a tremendous Common-Riding.
