Acting Father and Mother

wae is eet!

The Cornet’s Acting Father and Mother for 2012 are Iain and Andrea Huggan of 5 Leaburn Drive, Hawick. Married at Cavers Church 21 years ago they have two sons, Sean (18) and Grant (15). Amateur jockey Sean works in Malton for successful trainer Richard Fahey. Grant is an avid rugby player who recently played for the Borders Under 16 squad. Both Sean and Grant are really excited and can’t wait to support their dad and mum.
Iain was educated at Trinity Primary School and Hawick High School before completing a Joinery course at Borders College with an apprenticeship with Denholm Construction and is now working for himself. Iain enjoys nothing better than mentoring and supporting Sean and Grant, walking his dog, “Todd” and watching sport and horse racing.
First following Cornet Jim Robertson in 1977 on board “Topper”, he received his Mosstroopers badge from this year’s Jubilee Cornet, Brian Patterson. Iain was a keen rugby player, playing for the PSA and Hawick YM. Unfortunately, injury put paid to this hobby. On returning to the flapping circuit, he part-owned this year’s 25th Tradesmen’s winner, “Miss Mizzi”, before taking up riding for himself. The highlight of his riding career was winning the 1999 Hawick Tradesmen’s Handicap on “Mr Cool”
Acting Mother Andrea, an emergency nurse at the Borders General Hospital Accident and Emergency Department, a job she cherishes. She is a keen supporter and mother to her boys Sean and Grant and likes nothing better than watching them in their respective sports.
Andrea was educated at Wilton Primary School and Hawick High School taking part in competitive hockey and swimming and loved exercising her father “Drewsy”s flappers and loves this time of year, the Common Riding.
Iain and Andrea are honoured to be part of Ross and Gillian’s big year and will endeavour to carry out our duties in the manner expected of us.
We wish you all a great Common Riding.
